10% List Versus 15% Net Explained

Modified on Tue, 19 Mar, 2024 at 3:24 PM

Draft2Digital has no up-front charges for any of our services (formatting, conversion, distribution, and sales tracking). We make a percentage of each of your books’ sales, so we don’t get paid unless you get paid.

Our fee is approximately 10% of the price you set for your ebook (list price). That means most of our stores take about 30%, Draft2Digital takes about 10%, and you keep about 60% of the list price of your ebook.

Why is this "approximate"?

Most of our stores keep 30% of your list price and we keep 15% of the net they send us after their portion is removed, which is very close to 10% of your listing price.  You receive roughly 60% of your listing price for most of our stores.

The difference between doing the math to calculate 15% net versus 10% of the list price is generally within a one cent difference, so we tend to say 10% of list the price because it's a simpler calculation to do mentally.

Each store has their own specific policies and taxes are specific to your location. We inform you fully on the page where you set your price. Draft2Digital shows estimated royalties on a store-by-store basis based on your list price. If you change your list price, these estimated royalties will live-update to show you a best estimate of your take-home cut for each sale you might make at each specific store.

What about Print books?

For print books, you will make about 45% of the list price of your print book, minus the base printing cost. Check out our D2D Print Price Calculator for more exact cost estimates.
