If you have provided your own epub file and upload the epub to Draft2Digital for distribution, it is a UPE (user provided epub).
The most common mistake we see for UPEs is that you must have the cover image embedded as page 1 of your file.
Any time an author provides their own epub files, Draft2Digital does not modify that file, not even to add the cover image.
A cover needs to be embedded as Page 1 within the epub, as well as uploaded separately in the cover image field. The epub, in it's entirety, will be submitted to the distributors for publication, and the individual cover image uploaded in the cover image field will be pulled by the vendors to build the thumbnail image on the store sales page for your book (so both are required).
If you ever upload or provide a Word doc, you will NOT be required to embed the cover as page 1. You can upload the cover in the cover image field, and when Draft2Digital generates the epub file for you, we will automatically embed the cover for you as page 1.
