Publishing Times: How Long Does it Take to Publish a Book

Modified on Tue, 2 Jul, 2024 at 4:31 PM

Draft2Digital sends books to stores immediately once the book has been accepted by our book review team. Files are sent hourly, but some book stores may also have their own internal review processes before they decide to make books available for sale.

With nearly a dozen vendor store sites who submit to hundreds of different affiliate sites, territories, and partnership networks we are faced with different terms and review processes for each, but one thing is certain: none of them accept titles automatically. All check for copyright and quality issues.

As a trusted partner for store like Apple Books, Amazon, Kobo, B&N, and Scribd, our titles can publish within a few hours to 3 business days.
Our library distribution partners OverDrive, bibliotheca, Baker & Taylor and Hoopla which require more processing time to encrypt and incorporate into their software, it normally won’t take longer than a week on any of our sites for a book to be reviewed and published. Libraries process Frontlist ebooks within 7-14 business days. Backlist ebooks will be processed within 21 days (backlist counts as anything with a release date older than 24 months). Until your books go live at with our libraries, your book status will remain in "publishing." This does not hold up the publishing process with any of the other vendors you have selected.

Certain public holidays (Christmas, Chinese New Year) and occasional vendor site maintenance may influence the speed of the ebook review process by the stores.

We suggest that if you have a book with a strict publication date, you upload it at least two weeks in advance. In this case your book will be automatically set for pre-order in the stores where this function is available, so your readers can order your book, but cannot download it until the date of release.
